Ray Goff is a former American football player and coach. He was born on August 12, 1955, in Moultrie, Georgia. Goff played college football as a quarterback at the University of Georgia from 1974 to 1976. He then went on to play professionally in the NFL, spending time with the New York Giants and the Kansas City Chiefs.
After his playing career, Goff began a coaching career, serving as an assistant at various colleges before becoming the head coach at the University of Georgia in 1989. He held this position for seven seasons, compiling a record of 46-34-1.
Goff was known for his recruiting abilities and his emphasis on discipline and hard work. However, his teams at Georgia never reached the same level of success as the program had under previous coach Vince Dooley. Goff was eventually fired in 1995 after a disappointing season.
Since leaving coaching, Goff has worked as a radio commentator and has been involved in various business ventures. He remains a popular figure among Georgia football fans, despite his struggles as a head coach.
